My tapestries are mainly done using the Bayeux Tapestry stitch.  This is a medieval stitch whereby you outline a design and then block in the colour. This allows a finished tapestry look without actually having to weave. I much prefer this technique as it allows me a free hand in design, not having to follow a grid pattern as one would with a conventional tapestry.

As you can see from  the photos, I create a design and transfer it to the cloth.  Then I build up the  tapestry.  It is quite a time-consuming job but one I find very relaxing.

The designs come from many sources, especially my own head.  I have a love of all things Medieval and so many of my designs come from medieval sources.  However, I also do landscape designs and designs with action – full of people done in a naïve style with big and fat and small and tall people, hopefully bringing life and humour to the pictures.

I would be happy to make a tapestry to a design you may have in mind, perhaps your own home or area or some event you want to recapture.
