Stained Glass
You can go straight to the Stained Glass Gallery - or read a little about stained glass....
Stained glass is manufactured in a vast range of colours, patterns and textures. It is not painted - the colour is an inherent chemical property of the glass, so it will retain its colour for ever (as in 14th century cathedral windows, still as beautiful today as when they were made.)
This is one of the studio glass sample racks
For any given primary colour, there will be many shades available. In addition, the glass can be textured. The effect of this is to render the glass more interesting, or to limit visibility through it whilst retaining overall light transmission.
In this panel the rippled surface of the glass has been used to convey the impression of water....
![]() The glass itself has very good light transmission properties, whilst providing a level of privacy if required.
This window is over 1 meter high and contains more than 200 separate pieces of glass...
![]() It has been installed in a landing window which faces south. The glass allows a brilliant and ever-changing rainbow of light into the stairwell.
The stained glass is fitted behind a conventional double-glazed window, and can be easily removed for cleaning.
The client was closely involved in the design process and the selection of the glass. For this, a visit to the studio is useful. However, by using modern software I can e-mail design proposals to you. Changes to the colours and textures of the glass are quickly and easily made until the desired result is achieved.
Designing a stained glass window or panel is a collaborative process between the customer and the studio. It can be quite lengthy, as befits a piece of artwork that will last for many years.
I do a lot of stained glass for renovation projects. A tired and sad old window can be transformed into a beautiful piece of art - just unscrew it, leave it and your ideas with me and a few weeks later, install your artwork!
Before... ...and afterRestoration and Repair is always possible with Stained Glass windows and Lamps. The original glass can be cleaned and refitted with new leading. If some glass is irrepairably damaged, it is usually possible to find a near-exact match from one of the many stained glass manufacturers.
